Teaming up with Jim Kweskin

I’m proud to announce the G Burns Jug Band is again teaming up with jug band and folk revival legend Jim Kweskin for a very special concert presented by San Diego Folk Heritage on Saturday March 24th. We had our first rehearsal with Jim this weekend and can’t wait for you to hear what we’re working up. Info and tickets on the San Diego Folk Heritage website.

SDMA Nomination!

My third album with G Burns Jug Band, “The Fever” has been nominated for a San Diego Music Award in the category of Best Local Recording! Thanks to Chris Hobson for engineering, and Rarefied Recording Studio.

Los Angeles Old Time Social

I’m so excited to be playing the Los Angeles Old Time Social in 2018! The lineup is incredible: Ozark Highballers from Arkansas, twin fiddling of David Bragger and Susan Platz, Echo Mountain Stringband, Have More Fun Stringband, and the Yo Pitzy Jug Band with our old pal, papa Jonas from the Red Barn Series.

Concert Season Wrap-Up

I recently concluded the first season of American folk music concerts in La Jolla. It’s been a thrill hosting so many wonderful musicians over the last twelve months. I’ve put together a clip of some of my favorite moments. I’ll be taking a few months off to think about the next season and brainstorm ways to expand the audience and reach of these shows.

Clawhammer Banjo Class

This fall, I’ll be serving as an artist-teacher, leading a clawhammer banjo class at San Diego’s Museum School, right next to Balboa Park. This is a 10-week pilot program that is the result of a partnership between the Center For World Music, Deering Banjos, and the San Diego Music Foundation. The Center For World Music hopes to secure funding that will allow  year-round banjo class as part of their “Music In The Schools” program, which brings classes in traditional musical arts from around the world to San Diego’s public schools.
